Overall, it is clear that salmon must go through a cycle of progression of three stages to become adult salmon. Whereas the incubation period takes the least amount of time, turning into an adult requires the highest.
If we look at the details of the process, initially, adult salmon lay eggs in the upper river, which has a slow-moving water flow. At this point, they prefer laying under the reeds, where eggs remain for approximately 5-6 months. After that, 'fry' which is about 3-8 cm, commences moving toward the lower river.
Focusing on the lower river, here in fast-flow 'fry' stays for approximately 4 years. Then this process ends when they turned into medium-sized around 12-15 cm 'smolt' and swim towards the open sea. In the last stage, after approximately 5 years, smolt flourishes into adult salmon, which is about 70-76cm long.
