The diagram below shows how the Australian Bureau of Meteorology collects up-to-the-minute information on the weather in order to produce reliable forecasts.
The diagram gives information about how the Australian Bureau of Meteorology provides the weather forecasts based on collecting information.
It is clear that there are four main stages in the weather forecasting process in Australia shown on the diagram, begins with the collecting information from three different sources, and ends at the broadcast stage.
Looking at the first stage of the process, we can see that incoming information from satellite, radar and drifting buoy provides different types of data. Satellite data can be used to create satellite photo or synoptic chart, or information from radars will be processed to give a radar screen and a synoptic chart that a drifting buoy can also provide. All the data are gathered and forecasted in the second stage.
At the third stage in the process, these data will be analyzed and processed by a computer thoroughly to prepare for the broadcast. Finally, the information on the weather will be shared in different forms such as TV newsreader, radio, and recorded announcement.
