The diagram below shows the life cycle of a species of large fish called the salmon. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The picture illustrates the growth of salmons. Overall, this process not only describe how the appearance of salmons alter as they grow but also includes the change in their living environments. There are three main stages in the life cycle, beginning with fries and and finising with adult salmons.

To begin with, salmon eggs are laid near small stones and reeds on the base of an upper river. 5 to 6 months later, the eggs start to hatch and take on the form of small fish . The fish, which are called fries, range from 3-8 cm in lenghth each.
In the next stage, the fries move to the lower part of the river where the flow is fast and stay there for 4 years. At this point, they grow bigger by approximately 9 cm and become smolts
After that, they move again and live in an open sea. After 5 years, the adult salmons, which are 70 to 76 cm long, are ready to move back to the upper river for reproduction. The life cycle then repeats itself.
