The diagram below shows the production of electricity using a system called Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC).
Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information below.
The diagram shows how Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion(OTEC) works in producing electricity by solar energy and the feature of temperature difference in different depths of ocean water.
Overall, it is clear that the main components of the system are an evacuated evaporation chamber, a turbine, and a condensing chamber. The warm water goes through the entire process and is converted into pure water and salt finally while creating useful electricity.
At the begin of the produce, warm water is introduced into the evacuated evaporation chamber, where warm water be converted into water vapor and deposit salts by the heat energy of the sun. After that, the turbine use the vapor to generate electricity.
This water vapor is then transferred to the condensing chamber, where condense water vapor and produce pure water, with the help of cold seawater, which come from the depths of the ocean. For example, the temperature of deep seawater at 1000 meters below the surface seawater(which up to 29 degrees Celsius) can be only 5 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, waste salt water is discharged into the ocean and the process can be repeated.
- Some people think that all university students should study whatever they like. Others believe that they should only be allowed to study subjects that will be useful in the future, such as those related to science and technology. Discuss both these views 67
- Social media is becoming increasingly popular amongst all age groups. However, sharing personal information on social media websites does have risks.Do you think that the advantages of social media outweigh the disadvantages? 73
- The chart below gives information about the number of social networking sites people used in Canada in 2014 and 2015.Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant. 73
- A government’s role is only to provide defense capability and urban infrastructure (roads, water supplies, etc.). All other services (education, health, social security) should be provided by private groups or individuals in the community.Discuss both t 78
- Many people think it is very important to protect the environment but they make no effort to do it themselves. Why do you think it is the case? What actions can be done to ensure that individuals protect the environment? 78
