The diagram depicts the way in which a hydroelectric power station uses water to create elecrticity. As is observed, the entire process of electricity production is time consuming.
It is clearly shown that the dam acts as a high level reservoir in which the water from the river is stored. During day, intake, which is under the dam opens and the water is channelled to the power station. With the high force of the water flow the turbine inside the power station starts producing electricity and this electricity is transferred and stored in a generator. From there, with the help of power lines electricity is distributed to the national grid for supply. Remaining water is stored at the lower reservoir for the day.
At night the whole process reverses as can be seen from the diagram, reversible turbines is used to pump water from the small reservoir to the high level through large pipes. After this procedure the intake remains closed for the next day.
