In 2000, the Middle East and North Africa accounted for 6% of the population of the world. Although a moderate decline in 2000, the proportion of people residing in Asia remained the largest, at 54%, followed by Europe, which accounted for and 14% respectively. While the figures for the remaining regions including Latin America, Africa, North America ranged between 3% and 10%.
