The first chart below shows how energy is used in an average Australian household. The second chart shows the greenhouse gas emissions which result from this energy use.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The two pie charts demonstrate household energy usage proration in Australia and its contribution of greenhouse gas emissions. The largest consumed energy is from heating, including water heating, accounted for 72 percent, but the top greenhouse gas emissions come from other household energy all together, which are, refrigeration, other appliances, lighting, and cooling.
As obviously seen from the first pie chart, most of the energy is spent on heating, amounted to 42 percent, followed by water heating amounted to 30 percent, combined both together occupied three quarters of total energy usage, which makes other energy usage not so significant.
However, it’s the insignificant energy use that be responsible for the largest greenhouse gas emissions, with a number of 53 percent in total. Take refrigeration, other appliances and lighting for instances, their gas emissions are almost doubled compared to their household usage rate, while water heating and cooling emit almost as much greenhouse gas as they are used. More interestingly, though it is heating that is most frequently used, its greenhouse gas contribution was only 15 percent, about a third of its household energy use.
To summarize, it’s the other less frequently used household functions that produce the most greenhouse gas, even though heating including water heating use more energy.
