The flow chart shows negative impacts on environment resulted from deforestation.
It is clear that the environment is affected by deforestation in four aspects, beginning with clear cutting of forests and ending with flooding and less biodiversity.
Firstly, forests are cut clearly. Because heavy logging equipment compresses the soil, it becomes hard and ‘baked’. Consequently, rain water runs off, leading to flooding.
Meanwhile, fewer roots hold the top soil in place as a result of deforestation so top soil erodes. Also, waste wood from logging is destroyed due to increased risk of deliberate and accidental burning; therefore, micro-organisms feeding on waste is lost. Plants return less moisture to air owing to loss of forests, resulting in less precipitation and then increased drought. These changes mentioned above provide conditions for pioneer species to move in and hence vegetation is degraded, finally leading to less biodiversity in forests.
