The following bar chart shows the different modes of transport used to travel to and from work in one European city in 1960, 1980 and 2000.
The bar chart bellow indicates clear information about the percentage of commuters who used four different means for travelling between home and work place in a European city from 1960 to 2000.
Overall, it is clear that the citizens tend to use the car over a period and it had a significant growth, when other types of transport experienced a sharp decrease during a period of four decades.
In 1960, nearly 35% of people commuted to work on foot, compared with only 5% of citizens traveled by the car. Moreover, the percentage of those used bike and bus were 25 and 18%, respectively. In 1980, approximately 26% of people used the bus, whereas the figure was about 17% for the foot. However, for the car and bike it accounted for nearly 22% and 20% respectively.
At the end of the period (2010), over 35% of passengers find the car as the most popular vehicle. In contrast, only 6% and 9% of commuters used bike and walked on foot, respectively. Finally, travelling by bus accounted for almost 16% of people among the total citizens.
