The given pie charts compare the expenses in 7 different categories in 1966 and 1996 by American Citizens.
Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information below.

The pie charts illustrate the amount of money spent by people who lived in the US over a period of 30 years from 1966 to 1996.

Overall, it is clear from the charts that while food and cars were the most popular categories in 1966, books and computers were unpopular in the same year. However, this distribution of categories changed a little bit in 1996 which is the year when restaurants showed the same percentage than food.

Focussing on 1966, food shows 44% followed by cars with 23%. The percentage showed by petrol, restaurants and furniture seems to be similar with 9%,7% and 10% respectively. In addition, computers and books presented the lowest values with 1% the former, 6% the latter.

Looking at the 1996 pie chart, cars witnessed a surprisingly 45% of the expenses, followed by food and restaurants with 14% both. Meanwhile, petrol and furniture show 8% each. What is more, computers witnessed a surge of 10%. Finally, books maintained the last position with only 1%.
