The graph below gives information from a 2008 report about consumption of energy in the USA since 1980 with projections until 2030
The line graph demonstrates the consumptions of six different energy from 1980 to 2008 and the projections to 2030 in the USA.
It is clear that petrol and oil was by far the most important fuel and would still rank on the top in the future 20 years. Hydropower, however, was the only resource that would consume less in 2030.
In 1980, petrol and oil were the main sources of fuel in the USA with the consumption of 35 quadrillions, following by the use of natural gas with just half of its usage (20 quadrillions). The consumptions of nuclear, solar/ wind and hydropower were the same, around 4 quadrillions by Americans.
1980 to 2008 saw the usages of petrol and oil, coal and nuclear rose with fluctuation. After this period, the consumptions of petrol and oil and coal would keep increasing to their peak in 2030, with the prediction of 46 quadrillions and 29 quadrillions respectively. The annual consumptions of natural gas, nuclear, solar/ wind and hydropower would probably have no significant change in the future.
