The graph below gives information about car ownership in Britain from 1971 to 2007

The line graph illustrates the proportion of four different car ownership in households use (one car, no car, two cars, and three or more cars) in the UK over a period of 36 years.

Overall, there was an upward trend in the proportion of households having more than one car. In contrast, the number of households that own one car and no car witnessed a downward trend.

As it can be seen from the graph, the number of households with three or more cars plateaued between 1971 and 1975, standing at roughly 2%. After this period, the figure increased gradually to just under 10% in 2007. Similarly, the proportion of households with two cars tripled from roughly 8% in 1971 to nearly 25% in 2007.

In 1971, almost half of all British households did not have regular use of a car. However, there was a significant plummet in the percentage of households that did not own a car after 1971, from approximately 50% to just around 25% in 2007. In the same pattern, the proportion of households with one car rose to its peak at around 45% before witnessing a slight dip to 42% in the last year.
