In 1967, the average CO2 emissions in Britain stood at nearly 11 metric tonnes, making it the highest figure among the countries. Moreover, more CO2 was released by individuals in Sweden than in Italy, with exactly 9 compared to 4 metric tonnes. Finally, Portugal was recorded the lowest CO2 emissions per person, whose amount was approximately 1.5 metric tonnes.
Afterwards, the amount of carbon dioxide emissions in the United Kingdom and Sweden decreased dramatically in 1997 to end the period at about 8.5 and 5.5 metric tonnes. However, the figure for CO2 emissions in Italy overtook the figure for CO2 emissions in Sweden in 1987, with exactly 7 metric tonnes, which was followed by a constant increase over the period. Additionally, the amount of C02 released by individuals in Portugal experienced a significant increase over the timeline, with 5.5 metric tonnes, respectively, in 2007.
