The graph below shows the average number of UK commuters travelling each day by car, bus or train between 1970 and 2030.

The provided graph reveals the information regarding the average amount of UK daily travellers by three means of transport over the 60 years period from 1970 to 2030.

Overall, most people in the UK have a preference for commuting by cars throughout the given timescale. It is also of note that while the considerable increase was seen in the number of those using cars and trains, that number of bus was experienced a downward trend.

In 1970, there was just more than 2 million people travelling by train, which was merely a half of the data of bus users and 5 million was the number of those commuting by cars. The figure of rail passengers went up to 3 million in the next 30 years and had a plateau until 2010. Likewise, a similar pattern was witnessed in the number of UK citizens using cars, which significantly increased to 7 million and also remained unchanged in the next 10 years. Noticeably, the reverse was true for bus commuters, which underwent a mild drop of around 0.5 million.

By 2030, it is predicted that the date of car users on a daily basis will reach the record high of 9 million, and the figure for train will experience a twofold growth compared to the initial statistic, to nearly 5 million. Contrary to those groups, bus users is foreseen to decline until 2030 become the less popular choice with only 3 million - a third of the car’s number.
