Essay topics:

The graph below shows the average number of UK commuters travelling each day by car, bus or train between 1970 and 2030.

The line chart illustrates the figures for daily travel of workers in the UK using three different forms of transport including car, bus and train over a period of 60 years starting in 1970.

It is clear that car the the most common means of transport used by workers in the UK throughout the period shown. Also, while the number of bus users observed a turndown, the opposite was true for the figure of the people who travel by train.

In 1970, around 5 million UK commuters travelled by car on a daily basis, whereas the bus and train were used by about 4 million and 2 million people respectively. Over the next 30 years, the number of those driving to work saw an significant rise of nearly 2 million, and the number of rail passengers also increased consistently to 3 million. At the same time, the number of bus users decreased slightly to about 3.5 million.

By 2030, the figure of people using car for daily commute is predicted to reach almost 9 million. It is also forecasted that the number of train users will witness a rise of nearly 2 million. By contrast, buses are estimated to become a less popular choice, with only 3 million daily users.
