The bar charts compare average retirement age for males and females in six different countries of Europe namely, Denmark, France, Italy, the Netherlands Sweden and UK in two different years 2004 and 2008.
It is manifest from the first figure that in 2004 Sweden had the highest retirement age 63 years for both men and women. And the Netherlands had 62 years for male and 61 years for females. Nonetheless, France had the lowest retirement age at 58 both men and women.
By 2008, the retirement age increased by a year in Sweden, UK and the Netherlands for both male and females. Interestingly, France not showed an increase on women age, which was constant at 58 years, although men retirement age increased by 1%. Denmark's women in experienced the noticeable rise on retirement age to 61 years and similarly men at 61 years.
Overall, Sweden had the highest requirement age for both males and females over the period, although most significant increase came on Denmark's women.
