The graph below shows changes in the percentage of households with cars in one European country between 1971 and 2001

The bar chart explains the proportion of car ownership in families in one European country from 1971 to 2001.

In general, the capability of households in buying cars had increased throughout the years. Unlike the last two decades that most families at least owned a car, the absences of car at homes were more common in the half recorded periods.

In 1971, the lifestyle of owning more than one car held the percentage of about 16%, where the proportion of families deciding to keep only one car was twice as much as the former. By 2001, the proportion of households with no car had decreased gradually, indirectly increasing car possessions at houses to around 70% in the late decades.

Whilst the trend of owning multiple cars was volatile around 15% to 27%, the houses with one car dramatically increased to nearly half in 1991, and they fell by approximately 5% in the last year. At last, the proportion of households not keeping car was the same as those possessing two cars or more with the proportion just more than a quarter.
