The line graph compares and contrasts the data on the changes in unemployment levels among 16 to 24-year-old and overall unemployment figures in the period of 10 years in England.
It is clear that the percentage of young adults who were unemployed saw an upward trend in the whole country, whereas the overall adults unemployment rate experienced a downward trend.
Clearly, the proportion of British people at the age of 16 to 24 without work were higher than the overall adults unemployment rate. To specify, in 1993, about 25% of British 16 to 24-year-old living in London were unemployed, which was 5% higher than that for those living outside London. The figures fell markedly between 1993 and 2002 before seeing dramatically growth over the following 10 years to 25% and over 21% in the rates in the capital and in the rest of England, respectively.
Besides, the overall adult unemployment rate in London was always higher than that in the rest of England. In detail, the proportion of all adult without work living in the capital was 14%, while the figure for those living outside London was just 10%. The rates for both groups of adults declined significantly during the first twelve years. Especially after that, these figures grew gradually, but still under 10% in the end of the given time.
