The graph illustrates the figures for closures and openings of shops taking place in a particular nation from 2011 to 2018.
Overall, it is obvious that the tendency of running shops gradually became pale in comparison to that of closing shops in the given period.
Particularly, the number of open shops initially stood at around 8,500, which was 2,000 more than those being closed. In the next 3 years, while the figure for shop openings dropped significantly by 4,500 and then noticeably rose to well above 6,000, that for closures fluctuated and nearly remained stable afterwards.
In addition, when the inclination to close shops plummeted to its bottommost point, at 500 shops, opening shops only witnessed a slight fall by 2,000. After that, whereas the former recovered to above 5,000 shops, the latter maintained stability. A totally contrasting pattern was seen in the last 3 years as the number of shops being closed remained the same while that of new shops fell to 4,000.
