The line graph depicts the fluctuations in the level of two major factors that contributes to pollution in
London, which is Smoke and Sulphur Dioxide between the year 1600 – 2000.
Overall, the main cause of pollution is Sulphur dioxide. It has emitted 950 micrograms per cubic meter
during the year 1800. Comparatively, the level of smoke emitted is less (450 micrograms per cubic
meter) between the year 1600 and 2000.
During the initial stage (1600) Sulphur dioxide was at minimal level (0 micrograms per cubic meter),
however, it has raised rapidly from 0 micrograms to 850 micrograms over the year 1600 and 1700.
During 1725, there seems to be a sudden drop in the level of Sulphur (650 micrograms) and from 1750,
there is significant rise in the level of Sulphur dioxide emitted. Pollution caused by Sulphur is at its peak
during 1800s (950). Further, there is a decline in the level of Sulphur dioxide from 1825 to 2000 (750 – 0
respectively).
Smoke contributed to the least during the beginning (1600) with 0 micrograms. There is a substantial
gain in the level of smoke emitted over the year 1625 to 1850. The upper limit of pollution caused by
smoke is during 1825 and 1895 (450 micrograms) and thereon, the emittance of smoke has fallen by 0
micrograms in 2000s.
