The line chart illustrates the percentage of senior citizens whose ages 65 years and over living in USA, Japan and Sweden in 100 years since 1940.
Overall, while the proportion of the elder inhabitants in USA and Sweden shows similar slight increase, this category in Japan is predicted to have the most significant change throughout the period.
Look at the graph in details, from 1940 to 2020, starting at 7% and 9% respectively, the percentage of adults aged 65 and up of Sweden and USA rose slightly in the next 50 years before sharing the same percentage at 14% in late 90s. After that, from 1999 to 2020, there was a slight increase from the meeting spot to 20% before falling back to about 18% at 2020 in proportion of elderly population in Sweden; while this category in USA showed unchanged. Interestingly, the figure for Japan remained stable around 5%.
In the future, while the rate of the elder population of the USA is calculated to reach more than 20% in 2040, this number in Sweden is predicted a remarkable climb from under 20% to 25% in 2040. There is thought to be a rocket in the percentage of elderly people in Japan from around 7% to about 27% which will be held the highest rank of 3 countries.
