The graph below shows the proportion of the population aged 65 and over between 1940 and 2040 in three different countries.
Given is the line graph depicting the rate of population falling into the 65 and over age bracket in three separate nations: USA, Sweden and Japan over a century, commencing with the year 1940.
Perceptibly, all of the population in the three mentioned countries witnessed a great upswing throughout the period. Moreover, Japan which was the lowest figure at the beginning became the highest one at the end of the survey.
It is evident that the percentage of the elderly in Japan stood at merely 5% in the year 1940. Interestingly, this figure slightly fluctuated prior to still remaining at the same data in the next 60 years. Thereafter, it surprisingly experienced a drastic leap to report at 27% in 2040. Besides, the proportion of people 65 and over in Sweden was recorded at the loftier point than Japan with 8% in the first year. Subsequently, this data proliferated to 14% in 2000 and witnessed an exponential leap to 25% at the end.
Furthermore, the USA ranked first at the beginning of the examined year with attaining 9%. Additionally, it registered at the same data as Sweden in the year 2000 with 14%. This figure showed a great escalation to reach 23% in 2040 which was the lowest one at this time.
