The line graph shows the percentage of citizens over 65 years of age in three different countries with a projection from 1940 to 2040. Overall, there is an increasing trend, more prominent over the last decade, for all three countries.
For all the three countries, the numbers starts below 10%, with USA being highest amongst three with 9 percent in 1940. It increased from there for 40 years and reached 15%in 1980. From there on it roughly remained same for 40 years. From 2020 and on it increases again, more steeply in the last decrease reaching 23%.
The elderly population in Sweden was 6 percent, and showed a parallel trend to USA, it increased for 40 years and reached 14% in 1980. It decreased then, for one decade and became 13% in 1990. From this point it increased rapidly and overtaken USA in 2010 and became the first till 2030, and ended with 25 % in 2040.
Japan which was the least percentage of citizens in 1940 with 5% had a decreasing trend for almost 50 years. From 1990 at a level of 3%, it has begun to increase steadily, which boomed in the last two decades and ended up with the most populated country with to 27%.
