The diagram below illustrates the percentage of senior citizens in the period of a century from 1940 to 2040 in three countries Japan, Sweden and USA.

Overall, the figures were presented with an upward trend for the number of people who are 65-year-olds and over in the period given.

The percentage of elders in Japan, Sweden and USA started at around 5%, 7% and 9% in 1940. Before being expected to witness a modest growth about that of those and shoot up to a peak of 20%, 17% in Sweden and the USA in 2040, the figure gradually increased from 7% to roughly 20%, and from 9% to 15% from 1940 to 2018.
The figure in Japan, however, show an projected<span style="font-size: 19.36px;"> </span>explosion, starting at more than 7% in 2018, experiencing then a threefold jump before surpassing both Sweden and USA to soar to a peak of roughly 28% during the next 20 years from 2018.
