Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant

The graph shows how the amount of goods transported in the UK changed over a 28-year period across four different modes of transportation.
Overall, there was a clear upward trend in the amount of goods transported by each mode. Road transportation was by far the most popular mode, with the amount of goods transported increasing steadily from 70 tonnes in 1974 to just under 100 tonnes in 2002. This mode consistently ranked first throughout the entire 28-year period.
Pipeline and water transportation showed similar patterns from 1974 to 1990, with fluctuations occurring in the following years. The amount of goods transported by pipeline increased gradually in the first four years but remained the lowest of all modes throughout the 28-year period. The amount of goods transported by water was higher than pipeline in 1974, and rose to 40% in 1978. Both modes experienced a surge four years later, with pipeline transportation increasing from 5 to 15 tonnes, and water transportation growing by 20% compared to the previous year. The data for both modes remained unchanged for ten years until the amount of waterway goods went downward in 1998 before rising again. The amount of goods transported by pipeline surpassed 20 in 1994 and remained unchanged for nearly eight years.
The data for goods delivered by road and rail were roughly the same for 24 years, with a slight difference between 1974 and 1978. The amount of cargo transported by road returned to the starting point of nearly 50 tonnes in 1978, while the amount of rail goods dropped by half in the next four years. Both modes fluctuated from 1986 to 2002, with the amount of cargo rising to over 80 tonnes and slightly dropping before reaching approximately 100 tonnes. The amount of rail goods experienced the same fluctuation style and surpassed 40 tonnes in 2002.
