Essay topics:

the graph below shows the quantities of goods transported in the UK between 1974 and 2002 by four different modes of transport.
summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The chart illustrates how products were transported by four kinds of transportations in the United Kingdom from 1974 to 2002.
Overall, there was an increase in the number of transportations including road, water, and pipeline, with road transporting witnessing the most dramatic rise. The number of goods transported by road and pipeline were the largest and lowest figures throughout the period.
The road’s number started at approximately 70 million tonnes in 1974, after which it experienced an unsteadily increase before ending the period at shy of 100 million tonnes in 2002. Similar changes, but to lesser extents, were seen in the figures for water and pipeline, which fluctuated from just under 40 million tonnes to north of 60 million tonnes and from roughly 5 million tonnes to upward of 20 million tonnes in a period of 28 years respectively.

The figure for products transported by rail was at precisely 40 million tonnes, with a subsequent fluctuation in the range from about 25 million tonnes to 35 tonnes relatively, and a final increase to just over 40 million tonnes was witnessed at the end of the period examined. Despite growing gradually, the pipeline’s number of products transported was still at the bottom of the four kinds of transportation throughout the period.
