The graph gives information about the percentage of the population if four different Asian countries living in cities between 1970 and 2020 with additional predictions for 2030 and 2040.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and making comparisons where relevant.

The line graph illustrates the proportion of people living in urban areas in Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia between 1970 and 2020, with predictions for 2030 and 2040.

Overall, the figure for urban residents in four Asian countries increased between 1970 and 2020 and is expected to continue growing in 2030 and 2040. Although the number of citizens in Malaysia left behind the Philippines in 1970 and 1990, almost all the time the proportion of the population who living in cities in Malaysia achieved the highest.

On one hand, the figure for the urban population in Malaysia and Indonesia has witnessed a continuously increasing trend over the period in question. Both of these countries experienced a significant rise between 1970 and 1990, by about 15% to 45% in 1990 and by 10% to just below 25% in 1990, respectively. After that, the percentage of Malaysia increased sharply before reaching a peak of approximately 85% in 2040, overtaking Philippines to become the highest. Similarly, the figure for Indonesia also reached a peak of nearly 60% in 2040, overtaking Phillipines and Thailand to become the second highest, just behind Malaysia.

On the other hand, the percentage of urban population in Philippines and Thailand experienced a slight increase between 1970 and 2040. In 1990, both two countries increased significantly, with a 20% rise to 50% in Philippines, and a 10% rise to nearly 30% in Thailand. Between 1990 and 2020, while Philippines slightly fluctuated from 50% to just above 40%, the figure for Thailand remained the same. In 2040, the two countries are expected a slight increase, Phillipines will reach its old peak of 50% and Thailand continue to increase by about 10% to 40%.
