<span style="font-size: 19.36px;">This line chart compares the figure for the energy demand and energy available for fossil fuels between the year 1985 and 2005.
It is noticeable that the units of available energy witnessed a marked rise and was at its highest from 1985 to 1995, while the demand kept falling. In 1985 Freedonia only possessed approximate 3.7 units of fossil fuels, which was 1.5 units lower than the demand. Afterwards, this figure for available energy showed significant growth and overtook that of energy demand in 1987 (4 units)., and then reached a peak of 6.9 units in 1995. At the same time, a considerable drop was found in demanded of fossil fuels from 1985 (5 units) and bottomed at 1990 (2 units). This number remained steady in the following five years.
In contrast, between 1995 to 2005, it was energy demand that climbed up markedly to its highest in 2005, while the available fossil fuels showed a declining trend. The surging energy demand exceeded the energy supply in 1999 (around 3.2 units) and went up to 7.1 units in 2000, which almost tripled the figure for energy supply. During this period, the number of energy available steadied at 2.7 units after it reached its bottom in 2000.
Overall, although the demand for fossil fuel took a downturn from the year 1987 to 1999, the energy demand caught up with the supply and the gap between these two was becoming broader since the year 1999.
