Essay topics:

The graph shows the number of marriages and divorces in the UK between 1975 and 2000.

The line graph offers marriage and divorce statistics in the United Kingdom during a period of 25 years, starting from 1975.

Overall, it is evident that the number of marriages registered upward trends while the first marriages figure witness a drop throughout the stage. Another interesting point is that despite changes in other categories, divorces data rose steadily.

Looking for further details, there were around 500,000 marriages in the UK in 1975. This figure then increased to reach a peak of 640,000 a decade later. Despite a gradual decrease to 560,000 in 1995, the number recorded an increase back to 570,000 at the end of the period. By contrast, the figure for first marriages was on the slide and ended up at 300,000, after growing from 370,000 to 410,00 in the first ten years.

In 1975, the figure for second marriages stood at well over 100,000 while the number of divorces was only 80,000 in 1975. Although having dipped by a marginal quantity after increasing to 210,000, the former rose again to 260,000 in 2000. Meanwhile, the latter increased threefold to reach 250,000 in the ending year, at times overtaking the figure for second marriages.
