Overall, it is observable that the total number of enrolled students was always higher than the commencing number. Besides, Australian universities were prone to enrol foreign students in commencing and converted when it comes to the total.
Firstly, from 2001 to 2010, the number of overseas students accepted in Australian universities in commencing kept surging from over 15000 to more than 40000. At the same time, the total number of overseas students enrolled also experienced a constant increase from 20000 to over 80000.
Secondly, the commencing number of Australian students recruited in universities fluctuated over the whole period. Starting from nearly 18000 students, the number slightly rose to more than 22000 in 2002, then declined to 19000 in 2006 and kept oscillated until met the final number of 20000. Conversely, the total number was inclined to soar from 40000 in 2001 to 60000 in 2008 and maintained stability to the end of the period.
