The line graph illustrates the proportion of total expenditure in a certain European country between 1960 and 2000.
The given chart illustrates the percentage of total money which a European country spent over a period of 40 years in 5 categories, namely food, leisure, clothing, transport and fuel/energy.
In general, what stands out from the graph is that citizens in a certain European country spent the highest proportion of money on food for the first time in 1960. It is clear to see that while the percentage of expenditure in transport increased over the period shown, the others experienced the reverse pattern.
Looking at the graph, it is obvious to see that there was a significant decrease of nearly 20% in the proportion of expenditure in food over 40 years. A similar trend could be seen for leisure, with the figure dropping to 12%. In the meantime, the percentage of money which citizens spent on clothing dropped slightly to 5%.
When it comes to the others, there was only one dramatic increase in the proportion of expenditure in transport during 40 years, from under 10% to 15%, which was the highest percentage in 2002. In contrast, the year 2000 had witnessed a slight decline to about 3% in the figure for fuel/energy.
