The maps below show changes in the city of Nelson in recent times.
Presented are the two illustrations depicting several significant changes which have taken place in Nelson city between the year 2000 and today.
Overall, the city has witnessed numerous radical changes with the most noticeable being the construction of new amenities and changes in transportation.
In the top left corner, a hall of residence which does not appear in 2000 was constructed. On the opposite, the trees have disappeared to make way for a new shopping centre. In addition, the train station is to the north-west of the city centre has demolished but there was a new train station was erected on the right-hand side of it. Besides, a train line appears between the university and the city centre.
In 2000, there was an old market on the left-hand side of the city centre; however, till now, it was cleared to make way for a new shop and a new covered market was opened on the opposite. As of now, a bike rental scheme emerges located in the centre of Nelson. The way for pedestrians only is directly opposite the city centre was knocked down and replaced by a new way for transport. A restaurant and bars and clubs were built in the bottom left corner and right corner respectively.
