The pie chart reveals that there are three main reasons that cause degradation of land around the world while the table illustrates the effects by those causes to three different regions during the 1900s.
Overall, one of the reasons which affected agricultural land was overgrazing and the region that had the highest percent of land degraded was Europe.
The first chart shows the proportion of factors that caused land degradation during the 1990s. It can be seen that the major reason was overgrazing which corresponded to 35% of cultivate land worldwide. Over deforestation accounted for 30% degradation of cultivate land, while over cultivation resulted 28% of land degradation. All other minor reasons are categorized as "other" and constitute 7%.
The second chart indicates the percentage of regions that were negatively affected by land degradation. As can be seen from chart, the highest rate of land degradation had occurred in Europe at a rate of about 23%, in comparison with Oceania at 13% approximately.North America accounted for 5%.On the other hand, the most detrimental for about 9.8% as opposed to 1.7% in Oceania. Overgrazing which was a main factor that negatively affected land predominated with 11% of the proportion in Oceania. Although, over cultivation did not harm agricultural land in Oceania. It was main reason that led to degradation in North America, which accounted 3.3%.
