The pie chart below shows the frequency of U.S. Adults’ online purchasing habits in 2015, while the bar chart shows a further classification denoting online purchasing preferences.
The pie chart describes how regularly U.S adults shopped on the Internet in 2015 whereas the bar chart presents a detailed categorization of online shoppers' options.
Overall, a majority of U.S grown-up citizens purchased items online rather less often and buying goods in brick-and-mortar stores was far more enjoyed than shopping online.
As can be seen from the pie chart, over a third of adults in the United States chose to obtain items online less often while the percentage of those who surf the net for shopping a few times a month was slightly lower with 28 percent. Meanwhile, the group of people who shopped online on a weekly basis accounted for the smallest proportion in the chart with only 15 percent. Similarly, one fifth of U.S adults claimed to have never purchased anything on the Internet.
It is illustrated in the bar chart that coming to stores in person to pick up items was more preferred by adults in the U.S. In general, all online shoppers bought two thirds of their items from physical stores and saved the remaining one third for online purchase. The similar pattern could be found among the groups of monthly online shoppers and less frequent shoppers where visiting stores directly took up the higher percentage. However, weekly online shoppers experienced an opposite pattern of behavior as they the percentages of online shopping and direct shopping were 62 percent and 38 percent respectively.
