The pie chart illustrates the main factors contributed to the degradation of land on the worldwide scale whereas the table demonstrates the way these factors influenced three separate regions including North America, Europe, and Oceania.
Generally, over-grazing was the major cause resulted in the global degradation of land, and Europe was the region that was affected the most.
In specific, 35%, 30%, and 28% of land was degraded because of over-grazing, deforestation, and over-cultivation, respectively.
Divided by region, it can be seen that 23% of land in Europe was degraded, mostly caused by deforestation (9.8%), and over-cultivation (7.7%). Oceania had less percentage of land degraded than Europe, with the total 13%. It is surprised that over-cultivation was not a reason affected the land degradation in Oceania (with zero percent) but rather was over-grazing (11.3%). North America was the region that been less effected by the land degradation with only 5% of land degraded in total. The percentage of deforestation in this region was only 0.2%, and that of over-grazing was 1.5%.
