The proportion of energy produced from coal in four European countries from 1995 to 2010.
The line graph compares the proportion of energy produced from coal in Sweden, France, Denmark and Germany between 1995 and 2010. Overall, the percentage of produced energy produced from coal declined in all four countries over the timeframe.
To begin, energy production in Denmark and Germany was the highest and stood 60% and 55%, respectively. However, both countries saw a sharp fall to a level of below 40% in 1998. Then in 2007, the energy production in Germany plunged dramatically to nearly 5%, while Denmark leveled off at 20% between 2004 and 2007. However, at the end of the period in 2010, the percentage of energy production from coal in Germany jumped and overtook Denmark by nearly 5% and reached the level of nearly 20%.
The trend of energy production in Sweden and France was almost identical. Over the course of 15 year the percentage of energy from coal was always higher in Sweden, however, the difference decreased over the timeframe. In 1998 the percentage of coal energy in Sweden stood 45%, the figure in France was lower by 5%. Finally, both countries saw a decrease and finished the period with 30% of coal energy in Sweden and the number was approximately 2% lower in France
