The table compares the proportion of male and female cyclists of one town divided into five groups of age in the year 2011.
Overall, it is obvious that the figure for cyclists who aged 0 to 17 was far higher than those who were in the other age groups. It is also noticeable that females cycled more than males in all age groups.
In the age group 0-9, the percentage of girls who cycled was 51.3 %, this was marginally higher than 50.3% of boys. However, there was a dramatically fall in the percentage of male cyclists when they reached the stage between the ages 10 and 17, with 24,6%, compared to the figure of female cyclists remained high, at 42,2%.
The percentage of cyclists continued to experienced a downward trend in the age group 18-39 and 40-59 in both genders. In the former group, the figure for females decreased over a half to 17.1% while the figure for their male counterparts was only less than 10 %. In the latter group, those figures for females and males fell further to 12.3 % and 8.0 % respectively. Nevertheless, there were a significant growth of those who rode bicycles, reaching 18.5% for women and 13.2 % for men.
