The table and charts detailed below give information about the police budget in 2017 and 2018 in on area of Britain. The table illustrates where the money came from and the charts show how it was distributed.
The figures demonstrate the various sources of the police budget and its distribution in 2017 and 2018.
From an overall perspective, the national government was the biggest budget provider and the majority of funds were used to pay officers and staff in both 2017 and 2018. Furthermore, the total budget increased in 2018.
Regarding the sources, around 266 million of the total police funds came from the national government and local taxes. This figure rose to approximately 280 million in 2018, with the local taxes introducing an additional 11 million to the budget. However, other sources, such as grants, contributed only 38 million to the police departments and this amount remained relatively the same in 2018.
According to the pie charts, three quarters of the funds was spent on the salaries of police employees in 2017. Expenditures on techonology, buildings, and transportation constituted the remaining 25% of the budget. During the following year, however, these expenses slightly increased to 31%, while the percentage of money dedicated to salaries was reduced by 7%.
