The table describes data of how British people change the use of different modes of transportation from 1985 to 2000.
Overall, it is clear that the average distance in miles travelled per person yearly, by all modes of travel has increased. In addition, the number of cars used was by far of other modes.
In 1985, the use of taxi accounted for the lowest distance of people in England, at 13 miles, while travel by cars had the significant number in use, which was 3,199 miles per year. There was a similar number of average distance in miles in terms of walking, train, other and local bus, ranging from 255 to 450 miles.
In comparison, there was a decrease in the distance of walking, bicycle and local bus over the period of 15 years. In contrast, a majority of British people chose car as a main transport in daily travel, which rose from 3,199 to 4,806 within 15-year period. Other use of transport had less attention of commuters, such as train and other, whereas, taxi and long distance bus were grown steeply in the distance of travel, from 13 to 42 miles and 54 to 124 miles respectively.
