The bar chart compares the number of people in prison in five different countries over a period of 50 years from 1930 to 1980.
A perusal of the graph indicates that Canada and the United States are the only two countries for greater figures of imprisonment in each year. On the other hand, Great Britain had the lowest number of prisoners for the majority of the period. In Canada, up to 120 thousand people were imprisoned in starting the year 1930. However, in the US and New Zealand, the numbers were stagnant to 100 thousand in the same year. While in Australia and Great Britain had less figure of nearly 70 thousand and 30 thousand in 1930. Furthermore, the figures soared to around 130 thousand in the US in the year 1940. While the numbers were fluctuated down in Canada, New Zealand and Australia. There is no change in Great Britain in 1940. In the US, numbers were slightly dropped to almost 100 thousand in 1950 and there is a steady increment in the Great Britain of 40 thousand while other countries remained unchanged in the same year.
On the contrary, the rate of prisoners was gradually increased in 1960 in four countries except for Canada with Great Britain of 50 thousand. New Zealand and the US were touched to 65 thousand figures while the US with 120 thousand while it is expected to decline in the remaining two countries. In the final year 1980, there was an abrupt change of 130 thousand prisoners in the US and there was gradually increase to 90 thousand in Great Britain and New Zealand.
