The table depicts the percentages of overweight people specified by age from 1971 to 2005 in a country.
Overall, people of all ages saw a significant increase in their weight throughout the time, and the obesity rate was proportionated with the age of people.
As per the table, in the first five years of the time period, the proportion of being overweight stagnated for all ages with the lowest seen in the adult group and the highest seen in the range of older people – from those in their mid-forties to those nearly reach 75 years old. In addition, the trend is similar for all age groups, which was substantial growth in the vicinity of 20%.
However, from 1999 to 2003, it started to differ. To specify, the obesity rate of the oldest age group reach a plateau of 35%, whereas that of those in their thirties and forties fluctuated, making the proportion clustered from merely 30% to 35%. Noticeably, the percentage of being overweight seen in adults at this point was still a gradual increase while that of 65-74 age tier decreased slightly. Between the last two years of the time period, the obesity proportion of people aged 45-64 recovered and crossed the 40% mark. Nevertheless, the 18-29, 30-44 and 65-74 age tiers merely stayed unchanged with 25% and 35% (for both older groups), respectively.
