Essay topics:

The table shows the worldwide market share of the mobile phone market for manufacturers in the years 2005 and 2006.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The provided table compares the figure for the mobile phone market share of 7 different companies between 2005 and 2006.

A glance at the table reveals that the proportion of market share experienced significant changes. While the statistics of Nokia, Motorola and Sony Ericsson increased over the period, the remaining 4 companies exhibited decrease in the percentage of market share. In 2005 and 2006, Nokia was the tycoon in mobile phone market.

As presented in the table, in 2005, Nokia led the mobile phone market with 32.5% of market share, a year later, the figure increased to 35% and Nokia still dominated the field. Similarly, in both years 2005 and 2006, Motorola came second in the race of mobile phone, with 17.7% and 21.1% of market share respectively. Sony Ericsson also displayed a moderate rise by 1.1%, from 6.3% in 2005 to 7.4% in 2006.

A quite different picture can be seen in Samsung’s figure. This manufacturer experienced a slight fall in market share, from 12.7% in 2005 to 11.8% in 2006. As for the L.G company, there is also a fractional drop by 0.4% in the proportion of market share. In contrast, the statistics of BenQ Mobile and other manufacturers, which accounted for 4.9% and 19.2% of the mobile phone market in 2005 respectively, decreased significantly to 2.4% and 16.2% a year later in the same order.
