The table provides information about the workforce of silk production in two countries from 1851 to 1901.
Overall, the total of employers who produced silk was declined over the period, and the number of women is higher than the figure for men. In addition, the factories in two countries increased significantly at the end of period.
Looking at the table chart in more detail, it can be seen that the silk workforce was the largest figure with 130,750 people, including 76,789 women and 53,964 men. In contrast, there was the lowest of silk factories, with only 272 factories in 1851. However, the number of silk production reached 761, nearly triple that of the first year while the total of employees fell over 20,000 people.
Over the following 41 years, the total of number of female and male workers decreased steadily throughout the period, to 25,766 and 32,138 respectively, which contributed to continue drop in the total of employers in 1901 at 38,942 people. Meanwhile, the factories decreased slightly to 623 factories at the end of the period.
