The three pie charts show different accommodation choices by holidaymakers in the three years 1965, 1985 and 2005. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and making relevant comparisons.
The given pie charts demonstrate four different types of holiday accommodation that people chose over a 40-year period commencing from 1965.
Overall, it is evident from the statistics that the most popular choice of accommodation in the first reported year was staying with relatives, despite a downward trend over the next 40 years. Furthermore, living in hotels had become a more prevalent option during the time frame.
At the beginning of the period, it is noticeable that staying with relatives was considerably popular, with a striking number of over a half of holidaymakers choosing, far outstripping other categories. Figures for hotel, camping and caravans, meanwhile, were relatively the same, registering 16%, 15% and 14% respectively.
In 1985, the hotel option experienced an upward trend to 37% and slightly increased by 1% in 2005, more than doubling its first reported figure. The opposite, however, was true for staying with relatives, going under a remarkable decline to 35% in 1985 and 30% at the end of the period. As regards the camping option, although the figure rose marginally by 3% in 1985, it decreased to 12% in 2005. Caravans witnessed the opposite trend, with the figure going down in 1985 but doubling (reaching 20%) in the final year.
