The line graph illustrates the proportion of Australian exports to primary four nations, including Japan, the US, China, and India between 1990 and 2012.
In general, it is apparent that there was an increase in the ratio of Australian exports to China and India, whereas the converse was true in regards to Japan and the US. Noticeably, the proportion of Australian exports to China increased dramatically and making up the highest ratio among the four importing countries.
Looking at the chart, Japan was the largest importer of Australia, accounting for approximately 25 percent of the total exports in 1990. This figure surpassed far away although the US was placed the second largest importer, which was roughly three times greater than the ratio of the US. Nevertheless, the percentage of Australian exports to Japan underwent a substantial plummet by merely one-in-ten until 2005 before experiencing a fluctuation and maintaining the percentage til the end of the period. Meanwhile, the trend was true when it came to the proportion of Australian exports to the US. There was a significant fluctuation throughout the period with the peak point being merely 13 percent in 2000. However, the ratio declined steadily to stand at around 7 percent in 2012.
Turning to China and India, both importing nations accounted for a tiny percentage of the total exporting value of Australia in 1990, which was roughly 3 percent. Surprisingly, both of them witnessed a dramatic growth, particularly the exporting to China. The percentage of Australian exports to China saw a rocket rise throughout the examined period to reach the peak at approximately a third in 2012. In the meantime, the ratio of India leveled off towards 2000 and then experienced an upward trend to hit a high of 8 percent before plunging by 3 percent at the end of the timeframe.
