Topic: In some countries, schools are teaching foreign languages for primary school children. Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages?
With the prosperity of modern society, the rate of international integration is experiencing dramatically in nations worldwide. In fact, in order to meet the requirements of modernization, numerous countries are accelerating integrated language learning into curricula for elementary school students. While this approach may raise a lot of concerns among citizens, I am convinced that the merits outweigh the drawbacks.
One major ground behind the rising opinion offense teaching foreign languages to children is the fear of losing cultural identity. This is because if students are got exposed to a foreign language at an early age, along with the support of cutting-edge technology, they may have a tendency to approach with unappreciated information about different cultures. Due to not developing a holistic perception, they are likely to misunderstand multilateral customs around the world, leading to bad manners. For example, there are many instances of teenagers getting access to fiercely violent films with the excuse of learning English. By that I mean, those children have imitated a villain from this sort of movie, which do more harm than good for their loved ones. Furthermore, reflecting on the current educational system in many nations, students today are under a great deal of strain. They have to live with hectic schedules on a daily routine so that they can make an overall academic performance for their parents’ expectations. Therefore, educators should minimize their pressure as well as help them find joy in learning as a substitution for studying a new subject.
Nonetheless, in long term, mastering a novel language definitely does wonders for human life. The first advantage is that language is an ideal method to trigger both critical thinking and studious personality in children. Due to the fact, elementary students are still experiencing comprehensive in their mindset, thereby getting a language helps them to develop language part in their brains. In addition, by studying language, they may have a chance to broaden their horizons about the world, and figure out more various ethical identities. Accordingly, this may foster pleasant and meaningful life-changing. Another reason lies in acquiring better career aspects in the foreseeable future. For instance, without English, Vietnamese students may not be able to land a sufficient job, because of international merchandise trade. This means there are more and more foreign companies investing budgets in the Vietnam market, which is predominantly becoming big bosses controlling most jobs. Unless being good at English, employees would not achieve any stable incomes.
In conclusion, although learning a foreign language in primary school may have some negative effects, I believe that this way of learning will bring more value, armed with necessary skills for children in the future. Therefore, both the government and parents should join hands in order to balance the children life.
