Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information in the graph below.
You should write at least 150 words.
Allow yourself 20 minutes for this task.
The graph depicts the smoking rate per 1000 inhabitants in Someland for men and women with eight five-year intervals, from 1960 to 2000.
Overall, it is obvious that the number of males who smoke has always outnumbered the number of women. Furthermore, the rates of smoking men experienced a downward trajectory whereas this figure among females followed an opposite pattern.
At the start of the period, there were 600 in every 1000 men smoking. This figure, then, decreased gradually and hovered around 500 in 1785, followed by a slight reduction to 400 in 1885 before going down again in the mid-1990s and remaining at approximately 250 in 2000.
As a stark contrast, the smoking rate among women valued at under 100 in 1000 smoked in 1960. This, however, increased to nearly 200 in the 70s, then reached a peak of over 300 in 1975 and remained till 1980 before a steady drop to about 200 in the final phase.
