The above graph illustrates how water use has changed significantly contrasts the water use in the agricultural sector between two distinct nations which are Brazil and Congo based on population between 1900 and 2000 in terms of different industries.
Overall, it is obvious that between 1900 and 2000, the world's water needs increased considerably, with agriculture using the majority of the water. We can also see that Brazil's water use was far higher than the Congo's.
The agricultural sector had the largest water use throughout the century, which started at 500 km3 and increased progressively to over 3000 km3 in each case. Water use was quite low in 1900 and stayed that way for the first half of the century. Around 1950, the industrial sector's water use considerably increased to about 1000 km3, whereas domestic water usage increased just little, to about 300 km3. The water usage is depicted in the following table.
The table that follows shows how much water is consumed in various parts of the world. With 176 million people and 26,500 km2 of irrigated area, Brazil had the most water consumption per person at 359 m3, while the Democratic Republic of the Congo had the lowest water use per person at 8 m3 and only 5.2 million people. Moreover, Congo used less water on irrigated fields than Brazil did.
