The table below gives information about the underground railway systems in six cities.
The table compares 6 different metros in the opening date, distance, and passengers per year in the 4 developed countries.
Overall, the underground system in London, the only one Britian city showed in the table, reports the eldest and the longest railways whereas the metro in Tokyo, Japan, witnesses the largest user per year in the six cities.
Close examination shows that London was the pioneer in metropolitan transportation system, and started operating in 1863. Paris, France, followed the UK's step after 37 years. most of metros provided in the table were constructed during 20 century, although Los Angeles, the USA, has built their own subway system until 2001.
London's underground has deployed 394 km route till now, and it is around 100 km further than France's. Moreover, it is twice of the route in Tokyo, which places at 3rd followed by Washington DC, the USA, and Los Angeles. The shortest railway is in the Kyoto, the other city in Japan.
Despite having history of ages and longest path, there are only 775 million passengers ride on london's underground in one year. Comparing with London's, Tokyo's metro owns 3 times of riders, around 2 billions, every year, while Paris's metro is the second most popular system, either accounting for slightly small than 1.2 billions. It is worth noting that Japan, combining Tokyo and Kyoto, is the highest usage rate on the metro systems in the four.
