You are due to start a new job next week but you will not be able to because you have some problems.
Write a letter to your new employer. In your letter:
explain your situation
describe your problems
tell him/her when you think you can start
Dear Sir,
I would like to thank you for the opportunity for joining your esteemed company "Lovelock and Lewis" as a Finance Manager. My date of joining was preagreed to be on 7 August 2019.
I am currently serving my notice period with my current company "Thomson Reuters". In my current company, my job involves up-keeping and continuously monitoring our ERP systems. During the audit process, we have discovered some technical failures in the system and have reported it to our consultants. Our consultants have provided us with a timeline to fix the system within 3 weeks. The company’s CFO has requested me to extend my notice period my 1 week to resolve this issue. Since, I am the only person involved in this task, I would be my morally responsible to help them in accomplishing the task before I leave. I would ask you to please accommodate this genuine request of delaying my joining by 1 week. I will be able to join my new position in your company the latest by 15th August 2019. Hoping you will understand my critical situation and allow my late joining.
Yours sincerely,
John
